Boston Red Sox great Fred Lynn threw out the ceremonial first pitch, which generated the monetary donation for the charity on behalf of Travelers. In further efforts, Travelers and the Portland Sea Dogs hosted a food drive, which encouraged fans to bring in non-perishable food items to be donated.
"We are so pleased and thankful for the support and generosity of everyone who attended Travelers Night at the Ballpark," said Len Mariani, Senior Vice President for Travelers. "The monetary and food donations from Portland Sea Dogs fans at Travelers Night will directly benefit local families."
In addition to the charity component of Travelers Night at the Ballpark, Fred Lynn was on site during the game at the Travelers Photo Experience, where fans had the opportunity to have their photo taken with the former Red Sox All-Star on their own personalized cover of the Portland Sea Dogs game program. As an additional activity, fans also had the opportunity take part in the interactive Travelers Putting Challenge, where they could putt for the chance to win great prizes.
"We are so grateful to Travelers and the Portland Sea Dogs for partnering with us for Travelers Night at the Ballpark," said Clara McConnell, communications manager for Good Shepherd Food-Bank. "Through this partnership we are thrilled that we were able to not only raise awareness about hunger, but also raise enough money and donated food items to feed hundreds of local families in need."
