DOWNTOWN INSTITUTE: “The Smart Math of Downtown Development”

Who:   Joseph Minicozzi, AICP, Principal of Urban3, LLC
When: Friday, October 12, 9am-12pm
Where: Farnsworth Museum, Rockland

Joseph Minicozzi.jpgThe Maine Downtown Center, in partnership with Friends of Midcoast Maine, will be presenting a hands-on workshop and seminar to learn the nuts and bolts of downtown economic analysis. Studies find that downtown mixed-use buildings provide a more efficient means of revenue for local governments on a per acre basis than developments that consume much more land in more remote places.  The best return on investment for the public coffers comes when smart and sustainable development occurs downtown to maximize the property tax yield per acre.  Our speaker will discuss these opportunities and models for growing our community’s wealth, as well as highlight the policies that inadvertently increase community cost.

Presenter: Joseph Minicozzi, AICP is the principal of Urban3, LLC, a consulting company of the real estate development Public Interest Projects.  Joe served as Executive Director for the Asheville (NC) Downtown Association and has developed specific analytical tools that have garnered national attention in the Wall Street JournalPlanetizen, andNew Urban News among others.
