Sea Dogs almost erase seven, but fall 8-7 in Bowie

Bowie led 8-2 after eight...'Dogs had 5 runs, 5 hits in the 9th
Bowie, Maryland - The Bowie Baysox (33-27) scored six runs in the second inning and held on for an 8-7 win over the Portland Sea Dogs (24-37 on Friday night at Prince George's Stadium. Portland scored five runs on five hits in the ninth inning, but Andrew Triggs fanned Oscar Tejeda to end the game.

Ozzie Martinez highlighted the big second inning with a grand slam off losing pitcher Heri Quevedo (0-2). Former Red Sox infielder Brandon Snyder led off the second with a homer and Garabez Rosa had an RBI double. Quevedo allowed seven runs on seven hits over 2.1 IP.

Bowie's Dennis Torres (2-0) worked 3.1 scoreless on two hits and two strikeout to earn the win. Triggs earned his first save by recording the final three outs.

The Sea Dogs scored five times off Kenn Kasparek (- IP, 4 H, 5 R) in the ninth. Marco Hernandez (3-for-4) tripled home Cole Sturgeon (1-for-4, 2B), but scored on a throwing error to cut the deficit to 8-4. Jantzen Witte (2-for-4) added a two-run homer and Jonathan Roof (2-for-2) delivered an infield RBI single. Tejeda, who represented the go-ahead run, took a called third strike to end the series opener.

Portland scored two runs in the fifth inning off starter Parker Bridwell. David Chester led off the frame with a double and scored on a ground out by Sturgeon (1st Double-A RBI). Later in the inning, Luis Martinez drew a bases loaded walk.

Mike McCarthy worked 3.2 innings of relief, giving up a run on three hits and John Cornely pitched two perfect innings.

Portland has lost all four games to Bowie this season, are are 1-3 during a six-game roadtrip.

The Sea Dogs and Bowie Baysox (Orioles affiliate) continue their three-game series on Saturday night at Prince George's Stadium, first pitch is 6:35 PM. William Cuevas (6-3, 3.46) makes the start for Portland. Joe Gunkel (3-1, 2.96) takes to the hill for Bowie.
