Doyle Goes the Distance in Baysox 5-0 Victory

Portland, Maine - The Bowie Baysox (31-25) completed their three-game sweep of the Sea Dogs (23-34) with a 5-0 shutout on Sunday afternoon in front of a sellout crowd at Hadlock Field.

A night after former Sea Dog Joe Gunkel worked six scoreless innings against Portland, former 2013 Sea Dog Terry Doyle (W, 5-1) went the full nine in shutting out the Sea Dogs.  Doyle allowed seven hits and issued no walks while striking out seven.  He threw 111 pitches, 76 for strikes.  The Sea Dogs were held scoreless by Bowie for 26 consecutive innings to close out the series.

Bowie took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a solo home run by Trey Mancini (2-4, HR, RBI), his first of the season.  It was the first home run allowed by Sea Dogs' starter William Cuevas this season and broke up a streak of 84 consecutive innings by Cuevas without allowing a home run.  Bowie extended the lead to 2-0 later in the same inning on an RBI double by Austin Wynns (2-4, 2B, RBI).

The Baysox doubled up their lead in the fifth on a two-run home run by Mike Yastrzemski (1-4, HR, 2 RBI), his second of the season.  Cuevas (L, 6-3) allowed four earned runs on seven hits in 4.1 innings, walking three and striking out seven.  Madison Younginer worked 2.2 perfect innings in relief, while Robby Scott added a scoreless inning and Pat Light allowed one earned run in one inning of work, ending a streak of 27.2 consecutive innings worked by the Sea Dogs' bullpen without allowing an earned run.

The Sea Dogs have Monday off as they travel down south to begin a six-game road trip, beginning with a three-game set in Richmond on Tuesday night at 6:35 PM.  Justin Haley (1-7, 5.75) makes the start for Portland while Matt Cain makes a Major League rehab appearance for Richmond.  Pregame coverage begins live on the WPEI U.S. Cellular Sea Dogs Radio Network at 6:15 PM.  Tickets for the next Sea Dogs' homestand from June 16-18 are still available and can be purchased by phone at 207-879-9500 or online at seadogs.com.
