Thunder Stun Sea Dogs to Win Rubber Match 9-8

Portland, Maine - The Trenton Thunder (16-17) scored once in the eighth and three times in the ninth to shock the Sea Dogs (12-21) 9-8 and take the rubber match of their three-game series at Hadlock Field on Wednesday afternoon.

Portland led 7-5 after seven and 8-6 after eight before Trenton rallied in the top of the ninth off of Madison Younginer (BS, 1; L, 0-2).  After an Eric Jagielo (3-4, 2B, BB, 2 R) leadoff double, Gary Sanchez (3-5, 2B, HR, 3 RBI, 2 R) hammered a home run off of the Sullivan Tire sign over the Maine Monster to tie the game at eight.  Later in the ninth Dan Fiorito (3-5, 2 2B, 3 RBI) hit a sinking line drive to left field with two outs that got past Keury De La Cruz, who made an attempt at a sliding catch.  Taylor Dugas (1-4, 2 R) scored from first on the play to give Trenton the 9-8 lead.

The eight runs for the Sea Dogs were the most they'd scored since a 10-1 win over Trenton on April 24th.  Oscar Tejeda provided the majority of the Portland offense, delivering a two-out, two-run, bases loaded double in the third and a two-out, two-run, bases loaded single in the fourth.  Tejeda finished 4-for-6 with three doubles, four RBI, and a run scored.  It was his first four-hit game of 2015 and the Sea Dogs third as a team (last: Jantzen Witte 5/3 @ Reading).

Trenton used six pitchers in the game, Caleb Cotham (3-2) earned the win while Mark Montgomery picked up his fifth save of the season.  Portland starter Luis Diaz allowed four runs (three earned) on four hits in five innings, walking three and striking out four.  Eric Wooten started for Trenton and allowed six earned runs on five hits in 3.1 innings pitched.

Portland begins a four-game road trip tomorrow evening against the New Britain Rock Cats, who have won 12 games in a row - first pitch is at 6:35 PM.  Mike Augliera (1-5, 5.59) will face off against Yohan Flande (5-0, 1.36) in the series opener.  The two each faced each other in their last start on May 9th at Hadlock Field, with Flande throwing a complete game shutout and allowing just one hit.  Pregame coverage begins on the WPEI U.S. Cellular Sea Dogs Radio Network at 6:05 PM.
