Binghamton shutouts the Sea Dogs 2-0 on Thursday Morning

Portland wins the series...Janzten Witte 2-for-4
Binghamton, New York -  The Binghamton Mets (25-22) had three pitchers combine on a 5-hit shutout, defeating the Portland Sea Dogs (21-27) 2-0 on Thursday morning at NYSEG Stadium. Despite the loss, the Sea Dogs took 2 of 3 in the series, but had their road-winning streak snapped at five.

Portland rallied in the ninth inning, putting two on, but Paul Sewald retired Aneury Tavarez on foul out to earn the save.

 Luis Cessa (4-3) tossed six strong innings, yielding 3 hits (all with two outs) and 5 strikeouts to earn the win for Binghamton. Justin Haley (1-6) suffered the tough-luck loss for the Sea Dogs, allowing both runs over 5+ innings on 9 hits, one walk and 2 strikeouts.

 Aderlin Rodriguez had the game-winning hit, smacking a two-run double off Haley in the sixth inning. Robby Scott relieved Haley in the sixth inning and stranded two runners.

Jantzen Witte went 2-for-4, picking up his team-leading 16th multi-hit game of the season.

The Sea Dogs open up a three-game weekend series on Friday night against the Trenton Thunder (Yankees affiliate) from Arm & Hammer Park, beginning at 7:00 PM. Luis Diaz (0-4, 6.20) makes his 10th start of the season for Portland. Trenton counters with lefty Caleb Smith (2-3, 5.14). Pre-Game coverage on the U.S. Cellular Sea Dogs Radio Network at 6:40 PM.
