Augusta, Maine - The Maine Department of Labor has engaged in a partnership with a new mobile app that aims to connect veterans with local peers and resources in order to combat isolation.
"Our veterans need our help," said Governor Paul R. LePage. "These courageous heroes have sacrificed much in service of our country and they deserve our support in transitioning back to civilian life. We're proud to partner with POS-REP and offer our services."
POS-REP, which is military jargon for "Position Report," was co-founded by veterans Jake Wood, Anthony Allman, and William McNulty in the wake of Marine Clay Hunt's suicide. Using the "Radar" feature, a veteran can set a radius around their position and see icons representing fellow veterans and resources in their area-locations are approximated for security purposes.
Maine CareerCenter locations will now be part of the available employment resources identified through POS-REP. Maine CareerCenters offer specialized employment and training services for veterans, including job search, identifying training opportunities to learn new skills, or access other state or federal resources.
Through POS-REP, veterans can reach out to fellow veterans, connect with former unit members, write an email or initiate a phone call to a resource agency, or even "pop a flare" with their exact location to share an event or ask for support.
The app is available now for iOS (Apple devices) and an Android version is forthcoming. For more information, visit http://pos-rep.com .
Maine CareerCenters are equal opportunity providers. Auxiliary aids and services are available to individuals with disabilities upon request.
