Witte Hit by Pitch with the Bases Loaded to Give Sea Dogs a 2-1 Walk-Off Win in Game 2
Portland, Maine - The Portland Sea Dogs (18-25) and Reading Fightin Phils (22-19) split a twinbill on Saturday afternoon at Hadlock Field. Reading grabbed the opener 3-2, but Portland scored a 2-1 walk-off win in the second game.
Game 1 recap
In the opener, Reading's Tom Windle (1-3) tossed five innings, allowing two unearned runs on two infield hits, but earned the win.
The Fightins got the game-winning RBI from SS KC Serna.
Portland received RBI's from Marco Hernandez and Jonathan Roof, and had infield hits from Hernandez and Oscar Tejeda.
Justin Haley (1-5) took the loss for Portland, giving up 7 hits and 3 runs (2 earned) over 5.2 IP. Pat Light closed out the game with 1.1 innings on one hit and 2 strikeouts.
Tyler Knigge closed out the game with two scoreless to earn his first save of the season.
Game 2 recap
Jantzen Witte knocked in both runs, leading the Sea Dogs to a 2-1 walk-off win in Game 2. Witte was hit-by-a-pitch with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the seventh. The first-year Sea Dog knocked in the first run with a double in the first.
Madison Younginer (1-2) worked two scoreless on 2 hits and one walk to earn his first Double-A win. Reading's Hoby Milner (1-1) was saddled with the loss, giving up 3 hits and one run over 2.2 IP.
Carlos Asuaje went 3-for-4 with a run scored and Jonathan Roof singled in the seventh inning and scored the winning run.
Mike McCarthy had a strong start for Portland, giving up 4 hits and 1 run over 5 innings pitched.
Portland and Reading play game four of their five-game series on Sunday afternoon at Hadlock Field with a 1 PM first pitch. Luis Diaz (0-3, 6.75) makes his 9th start of the season for Portland. Ben Lively (3-1, 3.50) gets the start for the Fightins Pre-Game coverage on the WPEI U.S. Cellular Sea Dogs Radio Network begins at 12:40 PM.
