Sea Dogs Win Slugfest, Top Altoona 14-10

Portland, Maine - The Sea Dogs (16-22) extended their season-long winning streak to four on a wild night at Hadlock Field, defeating the Altoona Curve (22-14) 14-10.

The two teams combined for 24 runs, 31 hits, 18 extra-base hits, and four errors in the three-hour and nineteen-minute contest.  The Sea Dogs posted new season highs in runs (14), hits (17), doubles (6), triples (3), extra-base hits (10), and total bases (32).  The 14 runs for Portland are the most they've scored in a game since an 18-run outburst on May 24th, 2014 at New Hampshire.

After Altoona jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the top of the fourth, the Sea Dogs scored nine unanswered runs to take an 11-7 advantage after six innings.  Portland scored in seven of eight innings overall, while Altoona scored in four of nine.

Both starters last just four innings in the game.  Angel Sanchez, who came into the night with the eighth-best ERA in the league (2.09), pitched four-plus and allowed six earned runs on nine hits while walking two and striking out three.  Luis Diaz went four innings for Portland and allowed seven earned runs on nine hits while walking one and striking out one.

Eight of the nine batters in each team's lineup recorded at least one hit, and each team tied their own franchise record with three triples apiece.  The three triples for the Sea Dogs were their most since August 7th, 2007, also against Altoona at Hadlock Field.  Carlos Asuaje (3-5, 2B, 3B, 4 RBI, R), Luis Martinez (3-4, 2 2B, 3 RBI, 2 R, BB), and Blake Tekotte (3-4, 3B, 3 R, BB) each had three hits for Portland.  Oscar Tejeda (1-5, HR, RBI, 2 R) hit his first home run of the season as well as the first by a Sea Dog at Hadlock Field since Marco Hernandez homered on April 14th against New Britain.  Keon Broxton (3-6, 2 3B, RBI, 3 R) paced the Altoona offense with two triples, while Gift Ngoepe (2-3, HR, 3B, 3 RBI, 3 R, 2 BB) reached base four times and hit his second home run of the season.

Over their last four games, Portland has scored 40 runs on 57 hits, raising their team average from .244 (11th at the time) to .262 (6th).

The series continues tomorrow night at 6:00 PM.  Mike Augliera (1-6, 5.60) is scheduled for start for Portland, while Jason Creasy (3-0, 2.84) is set to go for the Curve.  Pregame coverage begins on the WPEI U.S. Cellular Sea Dogs Radio Network at 5:40 PM.  Tickets are still available and can be purchased online at seadogs.com or by phone at 207-879-9500.  Book your nine-inning vacation today!
