No-Cost CNA Training Program Holding Information Session at Augusta CareerCenter on June 8

Augusta, Maine - Maine citizens who have lost their job through no fault of their own and who have been out of work for a while may qualify for the Department of Labor's Ready2Work program. The CareerCenter is hosting an information session on Monday, June 8 at 1:00 p.m. at the Augusta CareerCenter, 21 Enterprise Drive. Attendees can learn more about the program and sign-up for an eligibility assessment.

"I encourage people who have been out of work to explore these training opportunities," said Governor Paul R. LePage. "You may qualify for a program that can train you for a new career at little or no cost to you, and this particular program pays you while you train. Some of our training programs are more hands-on, while others incorporate classes with on-site training, so it is worth a conversation to find out what programs fit your skills, interests and learning styles. We want all of Maine's citizens to have a good-paying career with a future."

This no-cost Ready2Work training program is being offered to those who qualify through the Augusta CareerCenter and in partnership with MaineGeneral Health. Eligible participants will take part in facilitated, customized, on-the-job training that, upon successful completion, could lead to employment as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).

Qualified participants for this Ready2Work program will begin their first step mid-June, with CNA training to follow in July. Curriculum is designed in collaboration between the Department of Labor, Adult Education, and MaineGeneral Health. They will also participate in the employer's on-the-job training, which pays a minimum wage for 32 hours and includes working directly with a nursing team for 16 hours. Ready2Work is one of many available no-cost training programs offered at Maine CareerCenters to help eligible Maine citizens find employment or upgrade skills. The program is delivered in collaboration between employers and the Maine Departments of Labor and Education. Under Ready2Work, training must lead to an Industry Recognized Credential and may include an on-the-job training component.

Employers interested in sponsoring Ready2Work programs in their industry and/or area should contact Kimberly Campbell, program manager, at 623-7935.
