BASE jumping doc for all adventure lovers!
Camden, Maine - CIFF Selects announces the June screening of SUNSHINE SUPERMAN at the Camden Opera House at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17. Mara Strauch’s heart-racing documentary is a portrait of Carl Boenish, the father of the BASE jumping movement, whose early passion for skydiving led him to ever more spectacular—and dangerous—feats of foot-launched human flight. CIFF’s Founder/Director Ben Fowlie will moderate a Skype Q&A with the filmmaker directly after the screening.
SUNSHINE SUPERMAN is a non-fiction feature that lets the audience experience what it feels like to jump off a cliff and walk away alive. In the freewheeling 1970s, what is now considered an “extreme sport” was considered simply crazy. Jumping off a building or bridge with only a few moments to release your parachute was not only seemingly illegal, it was deemed suicidal, even by many seasoned skydivers. Yet this is not a film about death. It is about the essence of life—of what it feels like, if for only a moment, to truly fly. Told through a stunning mix of Carl's 16mm archive footage, well-crafted re-enactments and state-of-the-art aerial photography, SUNSHINE SUPERMAN will leave you breathless and inspired.
“We’re thrilled to bring the award-winning SUNSHINE SUPERMAN to the Camden Opera House and Maine next month. This exhilarating film should not be missed on the big screen. I’m certain this story will resonate here,” said CIFF’s Founder/Executive Director Ben Fowlie.
“I can't even begin to describe how much I love this series of films we've partnered to present with CIFF and SundanceNow,” added Opera House Manager Kerry Hadley. “Each has been extremely captivating and moving—in extremely diverse ways. This film is a new release and we are so pleased to bring it to Camden!”
Camden International Film Festival and the Camden Opera House, in partnership with SundanceNow Doc Club, are bringing CIFF Selects documentaries to Camden one Wednesday each month through August. The monthly CIFF Selects series will include titles from the SundanceNow Doc Club, an online platform for the world’s best documentarians, including many CIFF alumni—giving CIFF’s audience the chance to watch great films year-round.
Additional CIFF Selects titles will be announced soon. The screenings are held one Wednesday each month. Future screenings will be held July 15 and August 19. Q&As with filmmakers, either in person or via skype, will follow select screenings. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased on the day of show at the Camden Opera House box office.
