Portland, Maine - A strong starting pitching performance by Miguel Sulbaran and a two-run double by Aaron Judge in the seventh inning helped lead Trenton (15-17) to a 6-3 win over the Sea Dogs (12-20) on Tuesday night at Hadlock Field.
After a 20-minute rain delay to begin the game, Trenton got off to a quick start. The Thunder scored one run in the first on a two-out, RBI single by Jake Cave (3-5, 2B, RBI, 2 R), then followed up with another two-out run on an RBI single by Jose Rosario (1-4, RBI, R) off of Sea Dogs starter Justin Haley (L, 0-4). A costly error by Marco Hernandez extended the second and allowed Trenton to score two more runs and make it 4-0 after two.
Miguel Sulbaran (W, 3-1) cruised through the first five innings, allowing just two hits and throwing 52 pitches. After recording an out in the sixth, Carlos Asuaje (1-4, R) singled and Jantzen Witte (1-3, BB, R) walked to put two Sea Dogs on base for the first time in the game. Oscar Tejeda (1-4, 3B, 2 RBI, R) then drilled a two-run triple to the gap in right center field to cut the Thunder lead in half. Portland made it a 4-3 deficit when Keury De La Cruz (0-4, RBI) drove in Tejeda and reached on an error by Jose Rosario, but he would end the inning stranded at second base.
The Thunder quickly reversed the Sea Dogs' momentum in the top of the seventh. After Kyle Kraus recorded two quick outs, Jake Cave and Mason Williams (3-4, 2B, RBI, R) singled and Aaron Judge (1-4, 2B, 2 RBI) pulled a grounder down the third base line for a two-out, two-run double to make it 6-3. All six Trenton runs on the night scored with two outs.
The rubber match of the series will be played tomorrow morning at 11:00 AM. Luis Diaz (0-3, 5.61) is scheduled to start for the Sea Dogs while Eric Wooten (0-1, 7.20) is expected to go for the Thunder. Pregame coverage begins on the U.S. Cellular Sea Dogs Radio Network at 10:40 AM. Tickets are still available and can be purchased at the box office at Hadlock Field or by calling 879-9500.
