Portland, Maine - Yohan Flande was dominant Saturday afternoon at Hadlock Field, carrying New Britain (21-7) to a 3-0 win over the Sea Dogs (11-18) in game two of their three-game series.
Flande (5-0) threw a complete game one-hitter and allowed just two baserunners through nine innings - a single by Mike Miller and a walk to Carlos Asuaje. It took him just 98 pitches to go the full nine. The Rock Cats won their eighth in a row, while the Sea Dogs have dropped six straight home games at Hadlock Field.
For the second straight game, Shane Victorino started in right field for the Sea Dogs while on a rehab assignment for the Boston Red Sox. He went 0-for-3, grounding out twice and popping out once.
New Britain scored one run in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to provide Flande with the offense he needed to win the game. Pat Valaika went 3-for-3 with two RBI, Jayson Langfels was 2-for-3 with a run scored, and Tom Murphy hit his sixth home run of the season.
Portland starter Mike Augliera was impressive, allowing two runs (one earned) in six innings. He allowed six hits, walked two, and struck out seven.
The series concludes tomorrow afternoon as the Sea Dogs look to avoid the sweep, first pitch is at 1:00 PM. Mike McCarthy (2-3, 5.32) will get the start for the Sea Dogs while Matt Flemer (1-1, 3.41) gets the nod for the Rock Cats.
