No-Cost CNA Training Program Holding Orientation at Augusta CareerCenter on January 16

Augusta, Maine - Maine citizens who have lost their job through no fault of their own and who have been out of work for six months or more may qualify for a new, no-cost training program being offered through the Augusta CareerCenter and MaineGeneral Health. The Ready2Work pilot program facilitates customized, on-the-job training that, upon successful completion, could lead to employment as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).

"I encourage people who have been out of work to explore these training opportunities," said Governor Paul R. LePage. "You may qualify for a program that can train you for a new career at little or no cost to you, and this particular program pays you while you train. Some of our training programs are more hands-on, while others incorporate classes with on-site training, so it is worth a conversation to find out what programs fit your skills, interests and learning styles. We want all of Maine's citizens to have a good-paying career with a future."

The CareerCenter is hosting an orientation on January 16 at 1 p.m. at 21 Enterprise Drive, Suite 2,
Augusta, where attendees can learn more about the program and sign up for an eligibility assessment.

Participants determined eligible for Ready2Work will begin the first step of the program on January 26, with CNA training to follow on February 19. Curriculum is designed in collaboration between the Department of Labor, Adult Education, and MaineGeneral Health. Qualified candidates accepted into the Ready2Work program will participate in MaineGeneral's Earn and Learn program, that pays a minimum wage for 32 hours while in training, of which 16 hours will work with a nursing team.

Ready2Work is one of many available no-cost training programs offered at Maine CareerCenters to help eligible Maine citizens find employment or upgrade skills. Each center provides several public-access computer workstations with Microsoft Office software, resume writing and cover letter software, Internet access and O'Net software for skills assessment. All CareerCenter services are free of charge.
