Songwriters Sessions Begin January 21
The Camden Public Library is pleased to again offer Songwriters Sessions this winter. The sessions are for writers struggling with their songs who would like an appreciative audience to share their music. The group will meet once a month on third Tuesdays through the winter and have an opportunity to perform at the Songwriters Coffeehouse in June at the library.
The sessions will be led by veteran songwriters David Dodson and John Nicholas with assistance from Rachel Nicholas. David is a longtime resident of Camden and a troubadour in a wide variety of musical styles from rockabilly to folk to novelty songs. He is a favorite performer in the midcoast. John has recently moved to the area and has remodeled his home to include a sound studio. John began writing songs in high school and has been honing his craft and writing, performing, and recording since then. Although he “does not particularly believe in songwriting contests,” in 2010 he entered his song “America, It’s You” in the Great American Songwriting Contest and was a first runner up in the folk category.
The Songwriters Sessions are an opportunity to get some positive feedback and perhaps even some harmony or instrumental backup to help you out. The first session is Tuesday, January 21, 6:00-8:00 pm and will continue on third Tuesdays. Suggested donation of $4 will help cover expenses. Drop-ins are welcome. Call Ken Gross at the library at 236-3440 for more information and to let us know you are coming. The dates of the sessions are: Tuesday, January 21, February 18, March 18, April 15 , and May 20. Library Coffeehouse is on Thursday, June 5.
