Portland Public Library and Portland Stage continue Page to Stage series

Discussion about “WORDS BY: IRA GERSHWIN AND THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK”
Tuesday, January 28th at noon in the Rines Auditorium
Portland, Maine - Portland Public Library continues the “Page to Stage” discussion series in partnership with Portland Stage on Tuesday, January 28th at Portland Public Library with a conversation about “Words By: Ira Gershwin and the Great American Songbook” by Joseph Vass. Portland Stage’s performance of “Words By: Ira Gershwin and the Great American Songbook” will be discussed,  along with themes of artistic collaboration and the ties formed by creating together.  The play is a light-hearted musical revue about the life and lyrics of the legendary American librettist Ira Gershwin.  From his early days writing comic tunes to Broadway and Hollywood stardom, two singers help Ira tell his story through his own words to music by Jerome Kern, Kurt Weill, and of course, his brother and favorite collaborator, George.

Page to Stage is an opportunity to engage in questions about the plays, playwrights, and ideas presented on Portland Stage Company’s Main Stage.  The discussion is facilitated by Portland Stage artistic staff and free and open to the public.
