The Pirates lost a heartbreaker in overtime last night 3-2 to the Manchester Monarchs in game 6 of the VIP Cup Series, presented by VIP Tires & Service. The Pirates rallied from a 2 goal deficit, with Andy Miele and Ethan Werek scoring 2:13 apart in the third period to tie the game. With just 1.8 seconds left in overtime, however, Linden Vey beat Louis Domingue to give the Monarchs the win. Springfield dropped a 3-1 decision to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers last night, the Pirates opponent on Friday. Jack Skille scored the lone Falcons goal, and the Sound Tigers scored twice in the third period to pick up the win. Mike McKenna made 25 saves for the Falcons in net.
The Falcons have a 3-0-0-0 record against the Pirates this season, with former Pirate Mike McKenna picking up all three wins. 2 of the three meetings this season have gone to a shootout, both at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee. Lucas Lessio leads the Pirates with 2 goals against the Falcons this season, while all three Pirate goaltenders have started a game against Springfield this season.
