January Programs for Job Seekers at the York County CareerCenter

Springvale, Maine - Start the year with a new career! The York County CareerCenter in Springvale continues its workshop programs for job seekers and those considering training to upgrade their skills and increase their employability.

"Our partnerships between businesses and CareerCenters are helpful for both jobseekers and the employer," said Governor Paul R. LePage. "CareerCenter staff can help people plan for a new career, connect with today's job search tools and meet hiring decision-makers."

CareerCenters can assist businesses by offering workshops on location, at local businesses or other organizations at no cost. Maine Veterans receive priority of service in all CareerCenter programs. The following workshops and programs will be held at the CareerCenter in Springvale unless otherwise noted.

**Resume Workshop** - Tuesday, Jan. 7, 9 a.m. to noon. Explore the basics of resume writing and learn how to promote the qualifications you have that directly match what the employer needs. Registration is required.

**Essentials of College Planning Workshop** - Monday, Jan. 13, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Randi Paine from the Maine Educational Opportunity Center (MEOC) will be offering a free workshop for adults 19 and older covering topics on College Awareness and Planning along with the Federal Financial Aid process. The instructor will assist participants in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). York County "NetWorks, second and fourth Tuesdays of the month, 8:30 a.m. to noon

- **H & R Block Year End Tax Planning** - Tuesday, Jan. 14 from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Join us as we launch our updated workshop format by utilizing the power of networking to take your job search to the next level. We will start off our morning with brief introductions over coffee then begin this interactive workshop. Join a representative from H & R Block in a year-end tax planning session focused on unemployed individuals. Topics include understanding the impact of unemployment insurance, 401K savings and others on your 2013 tax return. After the formal session, we will continue to discuss tips, leads, and share strategies. Remember, it only takes one piece of information to lead you to your next opportunity! - **Human Resource Panel** - Tuesday, Jan. 28, 8:30 a.m. to noon. Join us as we again launch our updated workshop format and take your job search to the next level by utilizing the power of networking. We will start off our morning with brief introductions over coffee then begin this interactive workshop. Three Human Resource Directors from local businesses will provide an overview of their companies; discuss the "ins-and-outs" of resume and job application reviews, their job interview process and appropriate follow-up techniques. **Interview Workshop** - Tuesday, Jan. 21, 9 a.m. to noon. Learn new interviewing techniques by role playing interviews. Registration required.

**GATEways to Employment** - Monday, Jan. 27, 9 a.m. to noon. Join us for the beginning installment of our "workshop trilogy." Learn how assessments can identify abilities, interests and skills and discover the unadvertised job market. Other topics include Job Search Strategies, Resumes, Cover Letter Tips and Interviewing. **Springborn Staffing** - Monday, Jan. 13, from 8:30 to 11 a.m., and Tuesday, Jan. 28, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. A representative from Springborn Staffing will be recruiting at the York County CareerCenter. Openings are available for experienced production, assembly and warehouse personnel. Applicants must have reliable transportation. Please bring two valid forms of ID and your resume to the interview. Health insurance benefits are available.

**Leddy Group** - Tuesdays, Jan. 7 and 21, 8:30 to 11 a.m. A representative from Leddy Group will be recruiting at the York County CareerCenter. No appointment needed.

**Adecco Staffing** - Every Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. An Adecco representative will be recruiting at the York County CareerCenter in Springvale. Current openings are in Sanford, Biddeford, Saco and Portland areas. No appointment required.

The York County CareerCenter will also feature several sessions led by these partner organizations in January:

**Women Unlimited** - Non-Traditional Occupations Specialist consultations for those interested in exploring non-traditional occupations (NTO) for women, and who are considering a potentially better-paying job. Contact Sue LeClair, NTO specialist at (207) 215-6992.

**Goodwill Workforce Solutions** administers federally funded employment and training programs through the Workforce Investment Act (WIA). Certain eligibility requirements apply. If you think you might qualify or could benefit from this program, please call the Workforce Solutions Center in Biddeford at 207-571-3301 to schedule a date for a training orientation.

**Maine Centers for Women, Work & Community** offer no cost classes in Assertive Communication, Creating Your Future, Creating the Rest of Your Life, Credit Yourself, Entrepreneurial Training, Financing Your Future, Professional Development and Mature Worker Activities. CareerCenters, part of the Maine Department of Labor, offer a variety of services to help people find employment or upgrade skills. Each center provides several public-access computer workstations with Microsoft Office software, resume writing and cover letter software, Internet access and O'Net software for skills assessment. All CareerCenter services are free of charge.
