Stephen Haynes, director of the Maine Granite Industry Museum on Mount Desert, will speak at 7:00 pm at the Camden Public Library about the granite industry in the quarries of Knox County, including notable quarries in St. George, South Thomaston, Tenants Harbor, Vinalhaven, Hurricane Island, and Muscle Ridge Plantation. Part of Discover History Month at the library.
Wednesday, October 30
“Pumpkin Palooza” jack-o-lantern lighting, 7:00 pm in the Camden Amphitheatre. Carve your own jack-o-lantern, then bring it to the library on October 30, any time during the day. There will be prizes for the most original pumpkin, the best carved and prizes for adults, teens, and elementary kids. You can bring your pumpkin and carve at the library as well, between 5:30 and 6:45. Bring your own pumpkins and carving tools, we’ll provide table space. Simply Books Club is the Camden Public Library’s adult book group, 2:00 pm, all are welcome. There’s no set reading list, simply bring along whatever book you’re currently reading and share it with the group.

The Hatchery Entrepreneurial Series continues, 7:00 pm at the Camden Public Library. In this session we will look at where to get the financing to get started, and what form that support can take. Free; participants may attend the whole series or sit in on individual workshops. Sponsored by the Bangor Savings Bank.
Michael Lund will present “100 Years of Grand Opera” at the Camden Public at 7:00 pm. The talk is dedicated to Maine’s legendary soprano, Lillian Nordica (1857-1914), from Farmington. Lund has planned a fascinating evening of recorded music from the world of opera and classical song, featuring the music of Mozart, Thomas, Verdi, Puccini, Rossini, Offenbach, Debussy, and Bizet, as well as vintage recordings of Nordica.

Thursday, November 7
Library Coffeehouse performance by the trio Wildage, Will Brown, George Fowler, and Baron Collins-Hill. Camden Public Library, 7:00 pm. Admission is $8, and $7 for seniors & students. The evening will present a varied mix of songs and tunes, some up tempo, some waltzes, and airs that are all new repertoire. Some dance tunes, some with a country twist, some downright Appalachian, and some with a contemporary twist.
