Portland Public Library, Sam L. Cohen Children’s Library
Portland, Maine - Join Portland Ovations and Fred Garbo of Fred Garbo’s Inflatable Theater Co. at a free, hands-on workshop for children and families. The workshop will take place in the Sam L. Cohen Children’s Library on Saturday, November 9, 2013 from 11:00am to noon. An internationally touring acrobat, juggler, artist, and actor, Maine’s own Fred Garbo will demonstrate and share a variety of circus arts for kids of all ages.
Participants in the workshop will enjoy playing with actual inflatable show props from Fred Garbo’s Inflatable Theater. Everyone will have a chance to try illusions behind the blue inflatable wall – from walking down imaginary stairs to taking an elevator up & down. And maybe even sliding down an escalator! Fred will bring inflatable cubes to juggle and pop out of. Simple balancing, object manipulation and juggling will be explored with Fred’s trunk load of props.
With an actor’s presence and a gymnast’s timing, Garbo brings his Inflatable Theater Co. to life on stage, astounding and tickling audiences with pop-action inflatables of all shapes and sizes combined with mime, juggling, and acrobatics. From Sesame Street, as the acrobat inside Barkley the Dog, to Broadway as the chief juggler in the musical Barnum, Fred’s physical comedy is a magical experience.
As part of an on-going collaboration between Portland Ovations and the Portland Public Library, the workshop comes to PPL in conjunction with Fred Garbos’ Inflatable Theater Co. performance on November 16th at the Westbrook Performing Arts Center. Portland Ovations will be giving away two tickets to their performance during this family workshop.
Portland Ovations contributes to the cultural, social and economic well-being of our community by presenting an array of high quality performing artists from around the world and creating diverse educational experiences that bring the enjoyment, energy and enrichment of the arts to all, through Ovations Offstage.
