Film & Discussion: Seneca on Anger November 7

“Anger: an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which it is stored than to anything on which it is poured.” -Marcus Annaeus Seneca (BC3-65AD)

Rockland, Maine - On Thursday November 7 at 6:30 pm Rockland Public Library will screen Seneca on Anger, part three of our ongoing Philosophy: A Guide to Happiness series.  Roman philosopher Lucious Annaeus Seneca (4BCE-65CE), the most famous and popular philosopher of his day, took the subject of anger seriously enough to dedicate a whole book to the subject.  Seneca refused to see anger as an irrational outburst over which we have no control.

A discussion will follow the 24-minute film, led by Richard Fortuna, URock student and Vice President of the Honors Program.  Philosophy: A Guide to Happiness is a series of six films hosted by popular British Philosopher Alain de Botton.  In the series, he presents six thinkers who have influenced history, and their ideas about the pursuit of happiness.

The Friends Community Room is located in the lower level of the library.  Rockland Public Library is located at 80 Union Street in Rockland.  Admission is free.  Views expressed in public programs at the library do not necessarily reflect the views of the Rockland Public Library or its staff.  Special accommodations for persons with disabilities can be made with 48 hours’ notice.  For more information, please call the library at 594-0310.
