Selby, Taylor Among Prospects Invited to NBADL Elite Camp‏

Top Prospects to Display Their Skills to NBA Team Personnel
Portland, Maine - Josh Selby and Jermaine Taylor will be among top NBA Development League prospects at the fourth-annual NBA Development League Elite Mini Camp on Monday, May 13 and Tuesday, May 14. The camp will be held at Quest Multisport Athletics Facility in Chicago, IL. Red Claws Head Coach Mike Taylor will assist at the camp.

The NBA Development League Elite Mini Camp serves as an opportunity for the players to display their skills and be evaluated by NBA team personnel. The two-day event features both drill work and full-court games, giving players the opportunity to showcase their talents.  NBA front office executives and scouts from around the league are expected to be on hand to evaluate the talent. The event gives NBA teams the opportunity to evaluate elite young players as they fill their summer league and training camp rosters.

Josh Selby, a 6-2, 183 lb. guard out of the University of Kansas, joined the Red Claws on March 7 in a trade with the Canton Charge. Selby, 22, played in 11 games for Canton this season while on assignment from the Cleveland Cavaliers, averaging 15.3 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 32.9 minutes per games. Selected by the Memphis Grizzlies with the 49th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, he also appeared in 10 games for the Grizzlies in 2012-13, averaging 2.0 points in 5.9 minutes per game. Selby was acquired by the Cavaliers from the Grizzlies via a trade on January 22, 2013 and was waived by the Cavaliers on March 3 before signing with the Charge as an NBADL player. He appeared in 10 games with the Red Claws, averaging 11.3 points per game. In two playoff appearances with the Red Claws, Selby averaged 25 ppg and 6 rpg.

Jermaine Taylor, 6-4, 210 lb. guard out of the University of Central Florida, lit up the scoreboard from the moment he arrived with the Red Claws, averaging 24.4 points in eight games with Maine this season. The Red Claws added the 26-year-old veteran guard for the team’s final playoff push, acquiring Taylor’s rights in a trade with Sioux Falls on March 15. The high-scoring guard averaged 22.5 points per game for the Red Claws during the postseason despite being hampered by an injured hand. Taylor, a 2009 2nd round draft selection of the Washington Wizards, spent parts of the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons with the Houston Rockets and 2011-12 with the Sacramento Kings for a total of 65 NBA games (5.4 ppg, 1.7 rpg) before taking his career overseas. He split the 2012-13 season between teams in Spain, Israel and China before signing into the NBA Development League.

Maine Red Claws – 2012-13 marked the fourth season for the Maine Red Claws. The Red Claws have been the minor league affiliate of the Boston Celtic since their inaugural season of 2009-10, and 2012-13 marked the first season of a new “hybrid” affiliation between the two teams. Under the hybrid model, the Boston Celtics have contracted to run the basketball operations for the Maine Red Claws, including the hiring and training of the coaching and training staff as well as the all player transactions and will act as the Red Claws’ sole NBA partner. The Red Claws play their home games at the Portland Expo Building. The franchise is owned and operated by Maine Basketball, LLC, which is principally owned by Bill Ryan Sr., the retired chairman of TD Bank, and Bill Ryan Jr. who serves as the team’s President and Chairman.
