Carriage Auction and Horse Power Show at OHTM‏

Owls Head, Maine - On Saturday, June 8 and Sunday, June 9 the Owls Head Transportation Museum will host a celebration of horse-drawn transportation. An auction of antique carriages, implements, sleighs, delivery wagons and buggies will commence on Saturday, with a day of working animal demonstrations and family fun on Sunday. Many of the examples to be sold in the auction are ready to use, while others are suitable for interior or exterior decorative use.

Items of interest to be sold in the auction on Saturday, June 8 include antique wagons, buggies, sleighs and surreys in original condition. Many of the pieces date to the late 1800s and early 1900s, bearing original coachwork, upholstery and paint. The examples reflect a variety of uses and conditions.

Several colorfully painted delivery wagons are highlighted, including a fully enclosed red advertorial wagon bearing branding for Rothman’s Pall Mall cigarettes, a Brewster Roof Seat Break, a doctor’s buggy and a selection of sleighs in various styles and conditions. Miscellaneous pieces boast original wooden wheels, many of which are ornately painted.

There is also a selection of carts, including a charming, hand-painted Romani Pot Cart, a wicker pony cart, a Meadowbrook Cart and a Sidebar Runabout. Such pieces could serve as decorative objects or excellent restoration projects; others are ready for immediate use. Such is the diversity of the auction inventory.
