Walther to Give Raspberry Talk at Merryspring‏

Camden/Rockport, Maine - Local gardener and author Lynette Walther will lead a presentation on growing raspberries in the backyard at Merryspring Nature Center on Tuesday, May 28 at 12:00 noon.

Raspberries can be a thorny subject among gardeners, from plants not producing fruit to the bushes quickly taking over the backyard. Walther’s talk aims to alleviate berry anxiety by teaching growers  good varieties to select for Maine, planting and pruning methods to ensure abundant yields, correct ways to harvest, and uses for backyard raspberries.

Walther is an award-winning garden columnist and writer for several Maine newspapers, including the Camden Herald, and a contributing editor for Maine Boats Homes & Harbors magazine. She is author of three non-fiction books, the most recent of which is  Florida Gardening on the Go, published by University Press of Florida.

This lecture is part of the Spring Talk Series at Merryspring, sponsored by The First.

Admission to the Tuesday Talks is free to Merryspring members and children. There is a $5 charge for non-members.

Merryspring is a member-supported, non-profit nature education center and park located at the end of Conway Road just of Rt. 1 by the Hannaford shopping plaza in Camden. For more information, call Merryspring at 236-2239 or visit the website at www.merryspring.org.
