MEET THE WINDJAMMER: Heritage of Rockland, Maine

Rockland, ME - Our newest "MEET THE WINDJAMMER" edition is on the beautiful Schooner Heritage of Rockland, ME. Heritage is a very special Schooner that not only is beautiful, but the first to be planned, designed, built and captained by it's owners. We will highlight what makes this Schooner so special to us and to others.

Heritage is not your typical Schooner has she was planned, designed and built by her owners Doug and Linda Lee at there North End Shipyard in Rockland, ME, who also captains her. The size of Heritage is 95 feet long, two masted with room to carry 30 passengers on trips along the Maine coast. Doug and Linda Lee have put a lot of thinking into what they wanted for features. Features are a galley in the large after cabin, large skylight overhead and new wood-burning Shipmate stove.

The Schooner Heritage has 14 double, 6 double bunks, 2 with private heads and 2 single cabins. Cabins  have standing headroom and electric lights, sinks with hot and cold running water. Sheets and blankets are provided and passengers may refresh themselves with a hot shower in the forward deck house. Heads are conveniently located on deck.
Guests who want to sail on Heritage can chose from 3, 4, 5 and 6 day cruises along the Maine coast. A lobster bake is a feature aboard every trip aboard Heritage. Heritage is truly a beautiful vessel to sail on as wind determines where she goes on her adventures.

The Heritage is the newest coasting schooner carrying passengers along the Maine coast. It was designed and built by Captains Doug and Linda Lee at the historic North End Shipyard in Rockland. Sailing during the summer and working on the Heritage during the off-season, the project took a year of planning and four years of construction. The launching on April 16, 1983 was attended by thousands of people, including crews from all three national television networks.
