Women's tennis wins NESCAC opener 8-1 at Connecticut College

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The No. 40 nationally ranked Bates women's tennis team won 8-1 at Connecticut College on Saturday in the Bobcats' NESCAC opener.

Bates (3-3, 1-0 NESCAC) next travels to the University of Mary Washington next weekend in Fredericksburg, Va., for the annual Blue-Grey Invitational. Bates will first face Johns Hopkins Friday at 3pm.

The host Camels (1-2, 0-1) earned their lone point at No. 3 doubles, but Bates took a 2-1 lead going into singles play with an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles by first-year Anna Rozin (Toronto, Ontario) and sophomore Hannah Sweeney (Franklin, Mass.), and a 8-4 won at second doubles by senior captain Bella Stone (Concord, Mass.) and junior Isabelle Rovinski (New York, N.Y.).

Bates finished off the match with junior Lauren Hernandez (Dayton, N.J.) outlasting Paige Braithwaite at sixth singles by a 7-5, 5-7, 10-4 score. The rest of Bates' lineup won in straight sets, including Sweeney at No. 1, Stone at No. 2, Rozin and No. 3, junior Suzanne Elfman (Longmeadow, Mass.) at No. 4, and Rovinski at No. 5.
