WATERVILLE, Maine -- Izzy Scribano had 18 saves for the second straight NESCAC game and Grace Crowell sparked the eighth-ranked Colby College women's lacrosse team in the second half with draw control wins in a 14-10 victory over Hamilton College at Bill Alfond Field on Saturday.
The Mules are 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the NESCAC. Colby was supposed to play at University of Southern Maine on Sunday, but the game has been postponed due to snow coming into the area.
"It was a fun game. The fans were amazing today and we started off really strong on both sides of the field," Colby head coach Karen Henning said. "Toward the end of the first half we lost our composure for a bit, but we regained our focus, stayed together, and kept battling the entire game. Grace had a presence on the field and stepped up when we needed her. She came up with some key draw controls at critical times."
By the numbers
* Scribano also had 18 saves last Saturday in a 6-5 win over then sixth-ranked Amherst College. Scribano, who had 10 saves in the opening half, leads the NESCAC in overall save percentage (69.8) and is first in conference save percentage (70.6).
* Crowell (pictured) had three goals and one assist for the Mules, but her six draw controls were just as important. She won four straight draws to spark a comeback during the second half when Colby fell behind 9-8.
* Taylor Moore also had three goals and one assist, while Robyn Pirie finished with three goals. Grace Langmuir had two goals and two assists while finishing with three draw controls. Banks Dotson scored twice and Emma Bankss had one goal and one assist. Bridget Horwood dished two assists.
* Tessa Ryan led the Continentals with three goals, one assist, and a pair of draw controls.
* Kara Pooley and Charlotte Wynn both had five draw controls for Hamilton (0-2 overall, 0-2 NESCAC). Pooley had one goal and finished with three caused turnovers, while Wynn had four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
* Skyler Simpson had two goals and one assist for Hamilton. Lauren Hamilton added two goals and Julia Rowland had one.
* Sarah Stark led the Mules with two caused turnovers and three ground balls. Eliza Dean had two draw control wins.
Game highlights
* The Mules took a 5-0 lead behind two goals from Dotson, but Hamilton answered with four straight goals in a span of about seven minutes. The two teams traded goals and the Mules led 6-5 at halftime.
* Crowell scored with 23:45 remaining to give Colby an 8-6 lead. The Continentals continued to fight back and went ahead for the first time at 9-8 when Rowland scored with 16:13 to go.
* Colby scored six straight goals to take command, including a beautiful individual effort by Pirie for an 11-9 lead with 10:53 remaining. Moore closed out the scoring run with 3:47 left.
* The Continentals were 5-for-14 in free-position attempts. The Mules had only four free-position shots in the entire game.
