BREAKING: Firefighters Working Fire At Dragon Products (Fires Out)

9:38am Wednesday Morning: According to Thomaston Fire Department, Responded to the report of a structure fire at 107 New County Road, Dragon Products. Upon arrival found heavy fire in possession of 3 floors in the building known as the Core Building. An employee reported finding a large leak/spill of #2 fuel oil on the floor which was flowing into a below grade mechanical area. In this area the fuel oil ignited spreading back to the leak origin and ultimately throughout the building. The fire was stopped just as it was entering a lab and control room areas. There is extensive structural damage to the Core Building and there were no injuries to plant staff or firefighters. The fire crews did an excellent job to confine the fire to the building of origin which seemed to be a monumental task upon arrival of the first units. Knox County Communications coordinated the response flawlessly as they continued to handle other emergencies in the county simultaneously including a chimney fire in Camden.

The Response: Knox County Regional Communications Center, 11 fire departments, approximately 75 firefighters staffing 20 pieces of fire apparatus, Thomaston Ambulance, Central Maine Power, Dragon Products Staff, Knox County Emergency Management and the foam trailer from Waldo County.

Cause: Accidental, Mechanical failure
