TITUSVILLE, Fla. – Saint Joseph's College (1-1) started the
season with a win over Bluffton University and suffer a loss to Saint
Benedict in the Sunkissed Games on Sunday afternoon.
GAME ONE: Saint Joseph's 10, Bluffton 5
Saint Joseph's grabbed the lead in the bottom of the second, when junior designated hitter Maizie Lee (Saco, Maine) and freshman catcher Bailey Rassol (Rehoboth, Mass.) both singled and due to a walk and fields choice seniors Katie Chadbourne (Jaffery, N.H.) would earn herself an RBI along with Meghan Elliott (Mendon, Mass.) in a sacrifice fly.
Beaver's start off the bottom of the third with a walk which was then followed by a Lee single and senior Danielle Pinkham (Damariscotta, Maine) would later single and drive two home for the Monks. In the fourth after singles by senior first baseman Melodie Bailey
(Lebanon, Maine) and Lee, Rassol would earn a two-run single. The next
inning would be similar as Lee would get an RBI single and Rassol would
add another two runs of her hit.
ON THE MOUND:
Junior Kate Whitney
(Jonesboro, Maine) would earn her first win of the seasons after
pitching almost five inning and allowed four runs off eight hits
OFF THE BAT:

Lee was 4-4 with two runs and an RBI

Rassol was 3-4 with four runs batted in and one run scored

The Monks were held to just four hits, as Libby Pomerleau (Limerick, Maine), Megan Eagleston (Reading, Mass.), Madisyn Charest (Sidney, Maine), and Katie Chadbourne (Jaffrey, N.H.) notched a single apiece in the mercy-rule setback.Starting pitcher Caitlyn King (Old Town, Maine) suffered the loss in the circle after yielding six runs (three earned) off nine hits in four innings.
