Monks Sail Past Mariners, 19-9

STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph's College (4-2) cruised past Maine Maritime Academy (0-3), 19-9, in a non-conference men's lacrosse game at the SJC Athletics Complex on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
With the score tied 1-1 early in the first quarter, the Monks rattled off seven unanswered goals as a man-up marker from senior Michael Finn (Quincy, Mass.) lifted the hosts to an 8-1 advantage with 4:13 remaining in the opening frame.

Freshman Devin Linscott (Nashua, N.H.) notched a man-down goal and Finn added his second man-up score early in the second stanza to extend the SJC advantage to 10-2. St. Joe's carried an 11-4 cushion into halftime.

The teams essentially traded scores for the remainder of the evening with sophomore Zach Hamilton (Pepperell, Mass.) wrapping up the third quarter with an unassisted strike to lift the Monks to a 15-6 lead and senior Daniel Cunningham (West Islip, N.Y.) closing out the game scoring with 2:27 left in the fourth frame to account for the 19-9 final score.

TEAM STATS:
Saint Joseph's held the advantage in shots (47-28) and ground balls (30-27) while both teams won 16 face-offs in the non-conference tilt.

THE KEEPERS:
All three of the Monks' goalies saw time in the victory, as sophomore starter Logan Skinner (Irving, Texas) allowed a pair of goals in 15 minutes, freshman Michael Janocha (Southampton, Mass.) made six stops during 30 minutes in net, and junior Zachary Remillard (Manchester, N.H.) notched one save in 15 minutes.

Maine Maritime sophomore keeper Matthew Emery (St. Johnsbury, Vt.) made 15 saves in the losing effort.

LEADERS – SAINT JOSEPH'S:
  • Finn netted five goals with two assists on 12 shots, including nine on target
  • Sophomore Shane Puleo (Nashua, N.H.) scored two goals with three assists and three ground balls
  • Hamilton added three goals on seven shots
  • Cunningham scored twice with two assists and three ground balls
  • Sophomore Alex Osmanski (Abington, Mass.) scored a goal with eight ground balls and three caused turnovers
  • Freshman Richard Mulcahy (East Sandwich, Mass.) netted a pair of goals
  • Senior Raymond Emery (Abington, Mass.) registered three caused turnovers
LEADERS – MAINE MARITIME:
  • Freshman Jayden Wilson (Lewiston, Maine) scored three goals with a pair of assists
  • Sophomore Zeke Tocci (Naples, Maine) tallied three goals
  • Freshman Alex Snowman (Sarasota, Fla.) added an assist and seven ground balls
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING:
With the victory, Saint Joseph's improves to 2-4 all-time versus Maine Maritime Academy and has now defeated the Mariners in consecutive meetings.

NEXT!
Saint Joseph's will host Emerson College in a non-conference contest on Saturday. Opening face-off is set for 12:00 PM.
