Patterson's Second Half Game-Winner Lifts Women's Soccer Over Bates

Julia Patterson's game-winner was her sixth goal of the season
LEWISTON, Maine - Bowdoin first-year Julia Patterson scored the game-winning goal with 10:49 remaining in regulation to give the Polar Bear women's soccer team a big 1-0 win at Bates on Tuesday afternoon.

The Polar Bears improve to 5-2-1 (3-2-0  NESCAC) while the Bobcats fall to 4-4-2 (1-2-2 NESCAC).

How It Happened
  • Bowdoin controlled the majority of the contest, out-shooting the Bobcats 24-9
  • The Polar Bears came out firing and hit two posts in the opening half - one by Kiersten Turner just three minutes into the contest and then Jamie Hofstetter late in the period
  • Bowdoin upped the offensive pressure in the second half, amassing 16 shots and controlling the pace of play
  • The game-winning goal came off a corner kick following a sustained possession in the Bates defensive zone
  • Kiersten Turner lofted a corner kick into the box where Patterson was left unmatched and netted her sixth goal of the season to give Bowdoin all the scoring it would need
  • Patterson's sixth goal of the year matches the season-high by any Bowdoin player from 2014
  • Bridget McCarthy and Bowdoin defense made the single goal stand, making three saves in the shutout
