Spartans Shutout Husson, 3-0

CASTLETON, Vt. – The Husson men's soccer team lost a critical North Atlantic Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon, losing to Castleton by a final score of 3-0.

The win moves the Spartans to 12-5-1 on the year, and places them at 7-1 in conference play on the year. Husson falls to 7-6-1 overall with the loss, moving to 4-4 in conference play.

Jake Tietgens and Blake Hart each tallied goals for Castleton, while Amir Pasic recorded 10 saves in his eighth shutout victory of the season.

Castleton jumped out to an early lead when Hart sent a ball into the box that Tietgens guided into the back of the net with his chest to put the Spartans up 1-0 in the 12th minute. Tietgens would later return the favor, setting up Hart for the Spartans' second goal. Tietgens carried the ball down the left wing before sending it into the box to a streaking Hart, who buried a header past the Eagles' netminder to put Castleton up 2-0. Just minutes later, Castleton went up 3-0 before the end of the first half when Paul Phillips ripped a shot from 25 yards out that deflected off the head of a Husson defender and into the back of the net for an own goal.

Both defenses turned up the pressure in the second half, as the game went scoreless following the break. Castleton got just three shots in the second half, while Husson tallied four shots. The Eagles held a slight shot advantage in the contest overall, edging Castleton 13-12.

In net, Pasic tallied his NAC-leading eighth shutout of the season for Castleton, making 10 saves in the victory.Cody Gross was charged with the loss, stopping three out of six shots he faced in the first half before being relieved by Steven Paquette.

Husson is back in action tomorrow when they travel to Green Mountain for their final game of the regular season. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. The Spartans are back on the pitch tomorrow afternoon when they host Maine Maritime in their final game of the regular season. Game time is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
