POULTNEY, Vt. – Husson University women's soccer team defeated Green Mountian College by score of 9-1 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Sunday afternoon at Eagles Game Field.
With the win Husson approves to a 7-9-1 mark overall and a 4-5-0 conference record and clinches the final playoff seed in the upcoming NAC Championship. Green Mountain slides to a 2-14-0 record with a 0-9-0 mark in conference play finishing outside the playoff picture.
Leah Hibbad tallied the game's first goal in the 10th minute of play on an unassisted effort. The forward stayed onside at the half and was sent in alone. She took a few touches to goal and managed a shot past a lunging Kim Simonetti to open the scoring.
Just under four minutes later the visitors added to their lead as Taylor Fortin hit a shot that deflected
down and in off the crossbar.
Hibbad scored her second of the game and eighth of the season on a partial break as she again used a few touches to elude the goalie and fired home a shot into the open net.
Allison Boulier received some luck on her seventh goal of the year which came on a corner kick as the senior had her corner attempt deflected by the goalie into her own net.
Hannah Clough scored back-to-back goals to extend the visitors' lead to 6-0. Her first goal came on an unassisted effort as her shot off of a loose ball situation found the back of the net, while her second goal and 3rd of the season was set up as Fortin sent her in on goal with a nice through ball.
Fortin picked up her second of the game and sixth of the campaign when she potted a strike off of a free kick.
Sydney Costa and Katey Curtis each notched one goal each to close out the scoring on the afternoon.
Husson outshot the hosts 25-10 and tied the hosts with four corner kicks throughout the match.
Kayla Gordon and Jordyn Hopkins combined for the shutout for Husson making four and three saves, respectively. Simonetti posted seven stops before being replaced by Suzanna Moses who made one stop for GMC.
Husson will close out the regular season on Wednesday night, October 28, when they host University of Southern Maine on Senior day. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
