Governor Directs Flags to Half-Staff in Knox County in Honor of El Faro Crewman

In honor of Dylan Meklin, a graduate of Maine Maritime Academy who was lost at sea aboard the cargo ship El Faro, Governor Paul R. LePage has ordered flags on all public buildings and grounds in Knox County to be lowered on Sunday, October 25.

“We continue to pray and keep in our thoughts those aboard the El Faro, including our five Mainers. The First Lady and I are deeply saddened by this loss of life and our hearts go out to the families and friends of our fellow Mainers, as well as all the other crew members,” said Governor LePage.

A memorial service for Dylan Meklin, 23, of Rockland, will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Samoset Resort in Rockport. Meklin was a 2010 graduate of Rockland District High School and he was a member of the Class of 2015 at Maine Maritime Academy, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Systems Engineering and obtained his unlimited U.S. Coast Guard license.

All U.S. and State of Maine flags in Knox County should be lowered to half-staff on Sunday, October 25.
