Camden/Rockport, Maine - Vermiculture expert Jock Robie will return to Merryspring to lead a worm bin harvesting party on Saturday, June 13 from 1 to 3 pm.
During this free event, Robie will demonstrate harvesting techniques for collecting worm castings from worm bins. Guests of Jock’s previous worm composting workshops at Merryspring are welcome to come learn how to separate worms and undigested material from the worm bin to collect castings, start the next worm bin cycle, and even make worm tea.
Worm bin owners from Jock’s previous workshops should bring their worm bin and a pair of gloves.
Those who wish to expand their worm bins can receive additional worm kits at no charge by contacting Jock ahead of time at mainelywormbins@gmail.com.
While this program is focused on harvesting tips for existing vermicomposters, anybody can come to observe and learn about this simple, natural, and odorless solution to composting kitchen waste into soil amendments.
Jock Robie founded Mainely Worm Bins in 2011 after keeping worms for four years. He provides his vermiculture classes as a public service and has presented all over the east coast between Virginia and Maine.
This class is part of the Weekend Workshop series at Merryspring, sponsored by Camden Real Estate. For more information please contact Merryspring at 236-2239 or email info@merryspring.org.
