Hope Crash Leaves One Dead, Another With Injuries

Hope, Maine - Just before 3:00 p.m., the Knox County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single vehicle crash on Rt. 17 on the Hope side of the Hope/Union town line.  It was reported that a large rock had fallen off a vehicle and had gone through the windshield, striking the operator.  The male operator was pronounced dead at the scene.   He was travelling with his wife, who was taken to Penobscot Bay Medical Center with minor injuries and treatment for shock.  Names are being held until proper notification has been made to family members.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is asking for assistance to locate the other vehicle that probably is unaware of the occurrence that happened.  Vehicle description is unknown at this time, but it would have been hauling rocks of 6-8 inches diameter in size.  It is still unknown direction of travel of the other vehicle.  Until more information is gathered through investigation, we are unsure at this time.  Anyone having any information is asked to please contact the Knox County Regional Communications Center at 207-593-9132.  Provide a name and contact info. and they will have a Deputy call you back.
