"Off Grid" with Nate Tucker at Victoria Mansion

Portland, Maine - Famed Boston-based composer and percussionist Nate Tucker will present "Off Grid":An Evening of Electronics and Live Percussion, in the historic stair hall of Victoria Mansion on Wednesday, June 3. It will be his only Portland solo performance of this tour and is brought to the city in a first-ever collaboration between Brunswick-based Oratorio Chorale and Victoria Mansion.

Tucker is known for bridging the gap between classical and pop music as well as collaborating with dance and theater, so be prepared to see him combine all of these elements into this solo show. He will entertain with selections that combine ancient percussion instruments with live samplings and electronic music. The evening's first set will include Tucker's original composition Nocturne on a Drought and Le Corps à Corps by Georges Aperghis, and the second set will be 6 Marimbas by Steve Reich.

Oratorio Chorale is a highly-acclaimed symphonic chorus of singers founded in 1974.  Under the direction of Emily Isaacson, theChorale's programs include a full concert season with 4-5 programs of choral music, chamber music performances, and a variety of outreach programs in schools and other settings.

Victoria Mansion, a National Historic Landmark, is widely admired for its intact high-style Victorian interiors designed by America's first interior designer, Gustave Herter. Its stair hall has hosted numerous musical performances, and is noted for its acoustics.

"The combination of Nate's music with the opulence of the setting should prove to be a truly memorable experience," said Executive Director Tom Johnson. "We've been seeking out partners in performing arts programs in recent years, and the audience is always transfixed by the combination of sights and sound."

Doors will open at 5:30 and there will be two twenty-five minute sets of music beginning at 6:00 with a twenty-minute intermission of wine, hors d'oeuvres, and conversation.  Tickets are $25.00 and seating is limited to provide attendees with an intimate and enjoyable musical evening.  For more information and tickets visit www.oratoriochorale.org or www.victoriamansion.org, or call Victoria Mansion at 772-4841, ext. 101.
