January Workshops at the Presque Isle CareerCenter

Presque Isle, Maine - The Presque Isle CareerCenter announces January programming for job seekers and those who are considering training for a new career.

"The CareerCenters provide Mainers with tools for an effective job search," said Governor Paul R. LePage. "Along with workshops that will help you fine tune your resume or interviewing skills, they can help with Maine Job Bank registration and often hold job fairs. I encourage job seekers to start the new year off right and visit the CareerCenter online or at your local office."

Events are held at the Presque Isle CareerCenter, located at 66 Spruce Street, unless otherwise noted. Maine Veterans receive priority of service in all CareerCenter programs.

Federal Veterans Hiring Preference: January 6, 9 a.m. Come in and learn how you can utilize your
Veterans preference to your advantage to obtain federal employment.

Creating Winning Resumes: January 7, 14, 21 and 28, 9 a.m. Learn how to create a professional resume and walk out the door with one in hand.

Computer Boot Camp: January 9 and 16, 9 a.m. Do you have troubles with computers? Want to spruce up your skills? Call Pete at 760-6318 to schedule your seat for computer boot camp.

Interview Workshop: January 12, 1 p.m. Interviewing formats are constantly changing. Find out what to expect when you walk in to sit down with an employer.

Financial Aid: January 14 and 28, 9 a.m. and 11 p.m., and January 21, 9 a.m. Get assistance with college planning and financial aid. Preregister at 800-281-373 or at http://meoc.maine.edu .

Job Search Tips for People with a Criminal History: January 19, 1 p.m. Do you have a criminal background? Are you having trouble finding work? This workshop will give job search tips, suggestions on how to respond to those hard-to-answer questions and identify where best to seek employment that will lead to a successful job search.

Gateways to Employment (Houlton): January 20, 9 a.m. Want to jump start your job search? Learn new strategies, proper interviewing skills and the correct way to fill out a job application.

Gateways to Employment: January 23, 9 a.m. Want to jump start your job search? Learn new strategies, proper interviewing skills and the correct way to fill out a job application.

Business Etiquette: January 30, 9 a.m. First impressions are everything. Come in and find out tips to help you succeed whether you're looking for a job or have landed one that you want to keep.

CareerCenters, part of the Maine Department of Labor, offer a variety of services to help people find employment or upgrade skills. Each center provides several public-access computer workstations with Microsoft Office software, resume writing and cover letter software, Internet access and O'Net software for skills assessment. All CareerCenter services are free of charge.
