Silverio Exhibit

Silverio Exhibit Opening Reception January 3

The Camden Public Library will host an exhibit of the paintings of John Silverio for the month of January in the Picker Room Gallery. There will be an opening reception for the artist on Saturday, January 3, at 2:00 pm. “Jack” Silverio is an architect in Lincolnville, Maine, and his show is entitled “Progressions and Proportions.” Although primarily an architect, Silverio has painted throughout his life. He has recently exhibited at the Unity College Art Gallery and his work is also on display at the Caldbeck Gallery in Rockland. Silverio studied architecture at Rhode Island School of Design and was a member of the European Honors Program in Rome, Italy. He has taught at the College of the Atlantic and the University of Maine.

“If you have ever wondered if geometry was only a cold dry subject, please come see and hear how it can become more alive and colorful!” he says. The recent works on display are studies of geometrical progressions and proportions found in nature and in architecture. They are rendered in the form of drawings and watercolors. Silverio will discuss the thinking process and the techniques used to produce this work in a gallery talk on Saturday, January 3, at 2:00 pm

You may visit his website at silverioartworks.com to see other paintings. John Silverio’s recent paintings and drawings are a departure from his earlier work. The new paintings and drawings are compositions of shapes derived from roof and pyramid forms which provide a vehicle to explore form, shadow, and color in a direct way. The work looks at form progressions employing the Fibonacci Series and the Golden Mean. The surface texture of the watercolors are often deeply granulated, enriching the luminosity of the color. Silverio is an author as well and his books can be found at SilverioWritings.com and his architectural work can seen at SilverioArchitectureAndDesign.com.
