Portland, Maine - Portland Ovations brings four top National Broadway tours to Merrill Auditorium in the winter and spring, with two Maine natives in starring roles. Boasting a combined 21 Tony Award nominations and 5 wins, Portland Ovations is proud to present: Sister Act - January 17th at 3pm and 8pm; Million Dollar Quartet - February 21st at 4pm and 8pm; the 2010 Tony Award-winning Best Musical Memphis - March 14th at 4pm and 8pm; and - back by popular demand - Mamma Mia! - right after Mother's Day on May 13th and 14th at 7:30pm. All performances are at Merrill Auditorium in Portland.
If the titles and award nominations are not exciting enough, two out of the four Broadway
productions star Maine natives. Million Dollar Quartet, the Tony-award-winning musical inspired by the electrifying true story of the famed and historic recording session that brought together rock 'n' roll icons Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins at the Sun Record Studios in Memphis, stars Scott Moreau from Litchfield as Johnny Cash. His experience is not limited to performing; he made his professional directorial debut with Ring of Fire at the Round Barn Theatre in 2011. In 2013 he released a Johnny Cash tribute, Home Of The Blues: A Tribute to Johnny Cash at Sun Studio and most recently, Scott finished shooting the final episode of HBO's Emmy award winning show, Boardwalk Empire.
Chelsea Williams, a Maine native and 2008 Windham High School graduate, is now playing the role of Sophie in the Mamma Mia! National Tour. After high school, Chelsea's roots spread to Boston where she earned a BFA from Emerson College, worked with the Lyric Stage Company of Boston, the Gloucester Stage Company, the Berkshire Theatre Group, and collaborated with the SITI Company on Café Variations, directed by Anne Bogart.
Tickets for all four National Broadway Tours are now on sale, online at www.portlandovations.org, by phone at 207.842.0800 or in person at PortTIX, the box office at Merrill Auditorium. Ticket prices range from $40 to $63 for Portland Ovations Members and $45 to $70 for the general public.
