The 2014-2015 Maine Poetry Express Launches at the Maine State Library

Augusta, Maine - On Thursday, November 6 at 6:00 PM, the Maine State Library will inaugurate the 2014-15 run of the Maine Poetry Express, an initiative of Maine Poet Laureate Wesley McNair supported by the statewide literary arts organization, the Maine Writers & Publishers Alliance. The event is free and open to the public.

The Maine Poetry Express, a metaphoric train in its second statewide journey, will travel to a series of stops throughout the state over the next few months, bringing together Maine poets and townspeople for shared readings that combine poetry with testimonies about the literary form's relevance to the lives and concerns of all people. "The primary goal of the Maine Poetry Express," McNair explains, "is to show that poetry belongs not only to literary specialists but to all of us. This promises to be an evening of poetry as you've never heard it before."

The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Maine State Library, a nonprofit organization that works to enhance access to quality services to Maine residents through statewide library initiatives. For more information, please contact the Maine State Library at 207-287-5600.
