Portland Public Library and Portland Stage continue Page to Stage series with a discussion about “Souvenir”

Tuesday, November 4th at noon in the Rines Auditorium
Portland, Maine - Portland Public Library in partnership with Portland Stage Co. continues the “Page to Stage” discussion series on Tuesday, November 4th at Portland Public Library with a conversation about Souvenir by Stephen Temperley. Portland Stage’s performance of Souvenir will be discussed, along with a question that arises in the play, “is it better to try but perform poorly, or never to take the stage at all?”. The play is a full-throated comedy with music about amateur soprano Florence Foster Jenkins whose famously tone-deaf recitals delighted audiences while she believed herself an operatic diva. Told by Jenkins’ long-suffering accompanist, Souvenir is a comedic and heartfelt reflection on the limits of perception and the sometimes curious rewards of following your dreams.

Page to Stage is an opportunity to engage in questions about the plays, playwrights, and ideas presented on Portland Stage Company’s Main Stage.  The discussion is facilitated by Portland Stage artistic staff and free and open to the public.
