Rockland to Host Economic Development Council of Maine Quarterly Meeting: Brownfields and Small Urban Development

Rockland, Maine - The City of Rockland is hosting the quarterly meeting of the Economic Development Council of Maine on November 18, from 8:00-12:00 at the Landings Restaurant. The focus of the meeting is on Brownfields and Small Urban Development and will feature presentations by Scott LaFlamme, Community Development Director in Bath, and John Holden Community Development Director in Rockland. Both Mr. LaFlamme and Holden will share their experience with their EPA funded Brownfield Assessment programs. An optional tour of one site that Rockland funded for Phase I and Phase II environmental assessments as well as conceptual plans for its development is available. “The EPA Brownfield Program has been very helpful to our efforts to work with property owners and to get sites ready for development—notably in our Tilson Avenue area, and area that has been long a focus of redevelopment in the City,” said Holden.

Christine Lombard, Project Officer for US EPA Region 1, and Nick Hodgkins, Oil and Hazardous Materials Specialist for Maine Department of Environmental Protection, will also present and update on the EPA and Maine DEP Brownfields Program, including grants available to municipalities for assessments and clean-ups.

Peter Gore, Vice President of Government Affairs with the Maine State Chamber will address the

attendees with an overview of the election results in Maine.
