Johnson fans 12 in 'Dogs 1-0 win

Brian Johnson career-high 12 K's, allows just one hit
New Britain, Connecticut  - Lefty Brian Johnson (9-2) shattered his previous career-high in strikeouts, fanning 12 on Friday night, as the Sea Dogs (67-39) beat the New Britain Rock Cats (51-53), 1-0 on Friday night at New Britain Stadium.  Johnson gave up just one hit, an infield single to Stephen Wickens in the third.

Sean Coyle knocked home the lone run, delivering a sacrifice fly in the third inning to plate Shannon Wilkerson. RHP Adrian Salcedo (1-7) made the spot-start for LHP Jason Wheeler, who was promoted earlier in the day to Triple-A Rochester.  Salcedo took the loss, giving up one run on three hits over 3 IP.

 RHP Noe Ramirez converted his 11th straight save, firing two scoreless frames on a walk and one strikeout.

Johnson was dominate from the start, retiring the first 8 batters, until DH Kyle Knudson reached on an error and Wickens had an infield single.  The lefty would retire the next nine batters, and pass his previous high of eight K's with a strikeout of Wickens in the sixth.

Johnson escaped his only jam in the seventh inning, recording his 12th strikeout with two runners on base.

Blake Swihart went 3-for-4, improving his average to .304, and picking up his 29th multi-hit game of the season.

New Britain used five relievers and stranded eight runners, holding Portland 0-for-7 with runners-in-scoring position.

The Sea Dogs and Rock Cats continue their four-game weekend series on Saturday night at New Britain Stadium. Right-hander Wilfredo Boscan (1-4, 3.29) makes his 13th appearance and fourth start of the season for Portland.
