Newport, Maine - Paving work begins this week on Interstate 95 northbound at Exit 157 in Newport, extending 13.3 miles to Carmel.
Motorists should allow extra time with reduced speeds and one lane of travel through the work zones, in addition to uneven lanes and grooved pavement. Ramp closures throughout the project will happen between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. with a 72 hour notice via message boards on the interstate.
Work includes pavement milling, hot mix overlay as well as drainage improvements. In addition, there will be guardrail repairs and tree cutting and clearing along both sides of the interstate to provide a safer buffer area.
All work is expected to be completed by the first week of November.
