Sharks Enter Pirates Territory for Tuesday Matchup

Pirates (15-15-1-6, 37 points) vs. Sharks (18-15-3-1, 40 Points), 7:00 PM EST
Lewiston, Maine - The Pirates reach the halfway point of the season on Tuesday night when they meet the Worcester Sharks at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee. Puck drop is 7 pm for the third game of the 4 game home stretch.

The Pirates hosted the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins for the only time of the 2013-14 season in their last game, a 4-2 defeat on Saturday night. Brandon McMillan and Brandon Gormley scored for the Pirates, who saw their 7 game point streak at home snapped. Mark Visentin made 18 saves in the defeat.

The Sharks last played Saturday night as well, dropping a 1-0 overtime decision in Norfolk to finish their two game series with the Admirals. Harri Sateri made 26 saves for the Sharks, but allowed a power play goal at 2:21 of the overtime period to take the hard luck lost. Worcester put 20 shots on Norfolk’s John Gibson, but he stopped all of them for the victory. Despite the loss, the Sharks are riding a 5 game point streak, with the overtime loss snapping a 4 game winning streak.

Tonight’s game is 8th matchup of year between the Pirates and Sharks, with Worcester holding a 4-3 advantage. None of the games have gone to overtime this season. In the last matchup, the Pirates were defeated 4-3 in Worcester on January 12th Mathieu Brodeur, Chris Brown, and Jordan Martinook provided the offense for the Pirates, who only dressed 17 skaters due to injury and illness. Mark Visentin faced 42 shots, turning away 38 of them, but Harri Sateri was able to make 18 saves in relief of an injured Troy Grosenick for the win.

KeyBank Key to the Game

Hustle and Flow: The Pirates played 60 strong minutes against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Saturday, but were unable to pull out the victory, partially due to a shift in momentum in the third period. The Pirates must capitalize on their chances early in order to keep the ice tilted towards the Worcester end. In addition to capitalizing on their chances, the Pirates can’t be afraid to stand up for themselves against a hard hitting Sharks squad, especially in defense of their skill players.

Tonight’s game can be heard on the Pirates flagship stations WPEI 95.5/95.9 FM as well as WEZR AM 1240 in the Lewiston/Auburn area and WTME AM 780/1450 in Oxford County. The game can also be heard online at portlandpirates.com by clicking “Listen Live” and can be seen live on AHL Live at ahllive.com. The pregame show starts at 6:40 with Jeff Mannix.
