Back by popular demand: Music from Clara's Dream A Jazz Nutcracker at The Dance Hall Kittery
Kittery, Maine - The gorgeous full band arrangements of the locally grown, nationally known Clara's Dream A Jazz Nutcracker will be performed at The Dance Hall Kittery for the first time since the full theatrical production, presented by local dancer, choreographer and producer Drika Overton, went on hiatus after its last show at The Music Hall in December 2009.
It will take place on Saturday December 14 at 7:30pm and Sunday December 15 at 2pm when The Dance Hall Kittery presents Ring in The Rhythm at Duke's Place! featuring Paul Arslanian's Jazz Nutcracker Sextet, where his arrangements will be heard again in all their glory.
Inspired by the Duke Ellington/Billy Strayhorn jazz arrangements and Tchaikovsky's timeless classical arrangements, Arslanian's swinging six-piece band blows hot jazz originals of the cool classical Nutcracker themes, including the Spanish, the Arabian, the Chinese, and a sugar-plum Tango. Featured dancers joining the band include the original production cast members: the legendary Brenda Bufalino and local staples Drika Overton, Dean Diggins, Gay Nardone, Christine Hounsell, Heidi Mitrushi, Jessica Trout-Haney and Jonny Peiffer. This year will also feature the 6'8' young tap phenom Ryan Casey who will bring his new show, "Class Act," to The Dance Hall in April.
"We've worked together for so long and I'm thrilled to be together again with my "family" for the holidays," Overton said.
