Nurse practitioner joins Brunswick Primary Care‏

Brunswick, Maine - Nurse practitioner Kathy Thorson has joined Brunswick Primary Care.

Thorson has more than a decade’s experience as a practicing registered nurse in both emergency medical services and maternity-labor and delivery, working at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick and Maine Medical Center in Portland. She earned her master’s degree in nursing and gained certification as a nurse practitioner in 2012.

She holds a bachelor’s degree from The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va., and was awarded a master’s degree from Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. She later earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing in Philadelphia, and completed her master’s degree in nursing at the University of Southern Maine in Portland.

Her areas of special interest include asthma care, women's health, healthy lifestyle choices, and collaborative and evidence-based practice.

Her professional experience includes work as a Pediatric Advanced Life Support instructor, Neonatal Resuscitation Program instructor, Certified Childbirth Educator, and Emergency Medical Technician. She has also worked as a high school teacher and has considerable experience as a community volunteer.

She lives in Brunswick with her husband and their two children.

She practices in association with the following primary care providers: family physicians Cortney Linville, D.O., Jeffrey P. Maher, M.D., and Melanie C. Rand, D.O.; family nurse practitioner Hallie E. Prince; and pediatrician Lawrence J. Losey, M.D. The practice can be reached at 729-6162.
