Cardiac electrophysiologist joins CMHVI‏

Lewiston, Maine - Guru P. Mohanty, M.D., a cardiac electrophysiologist, has been appointed to the Central Maine Medical Center Medical Staff. He is practicing with Central Maine Heart Associates in Lewiston.

Cardiac electrophysiology is a subspecialty of cardiology concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of disturbances in the heart’s electrical function.

Cardiac electrophysiologists use an array of technologies to assess heart beat irregularities and develop treatment plans, which may include medications, therapeutic procedures, and implanted pacemakers and defibrillators.

Prior to joining the greater Lewiston-Auburn medical community, Mohanty completed a cardiac electrophysiology fellowship at the Lahey Clinic Department of Cardiovascular Medicine in Burlington, Mass. Lahey Clinic is a Tufts University School of Medicine teaching hospital.

A graduate of Villanova University in Villanova, Pa., he earned his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia

He completed residency training, including a year as chief resident, at the Lahey Clinic Department of General Internal Medicine. In addition to his electrophysiology fellowship, he also served a fellowship in cardiovascular medicine with the Lahey Clinic Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, where he was appointed chief fellow and named fellow of the year.

He has served as a clinical instructor of medicine at Tufts University since 2005.

Mohanty is certified in cardiovascular disease and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Mohanty works in partnership with electrophysiologist Daniel A. Soroff, M.D., and they are in practice with cardiologists David N. Abisalih, M.D., Robert Bender, D.O., Nicholas H. Laffely, M.D., Alan B. Langburd, M.D., Mark E. Lanzieri, M.D., Patrick J. Lawrence, M.D., Dervilla M. McCann, M.D., William J. Phillips, M.D., and Robert J Weiss, M.D., physician assistants Jamie J. Dufour and Joseph D. Sala, and nurse practitioner Deborah Freeman. The practice can be reached at 753-3900.
