200 MAINERS TO RUN AND JUMP IN OCEAN IN PORTLAND DECEMBER 31 TO FIGHT CLIMATE CHANGE

Two hundred Mainers from 10 to 76-years-old will be jumping in the ocean at East End beach at noon on New Year’s Eve Day.

There will be LOTS of polar bear costumes, as the two best polar bear costume-clad folks win a prize! A  number of impressive teams are participating this year. Maine Medical Center has the lofty goal of 30 employees signing up for this feat! We’ll make room for more – the ocean is vast! And the need is great!

This feel good adrenaline rush includes a plunge into the Atlantic and a winter jaunt around the East End to support the Natural Resources Council of Maine’s work to reduce climate change pollution. The bone-chilling fun 5K and dip will take place in Portland’s East End on Tuesday, December 31. The 5k begins from the Back Cove parking lot (across from Hannaford) at 11:00 a.m. and the dip will be at the East End Beach at noon – the “warmest” part of the day! A shuttle will return people to their cars at the Back Cove after the dip. Registration opens at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec 31 at the Back Cove parking area.

Pre-registration is online at: http://nrcm.kintera.org/dipdash

The registration fee is $35, and friends and family can pledge to help raise money and awareness about climate change and what NRCM is doing right here in Maine to curb it. Learn more and pledge online at: http://nrcm.kintera.org/dipdash! A Baxter Brewing Company beverage at the event-after party at the Great Lost Bear is included with registration!

There are really cool fundraising prizes including a stainless-steel water bottle donated by WCLZ that features the event and Mt. Katahdin for those raising $50; a very useful and very cozy event towel donated by Lee Auto Malls; hand-made mugs featuring the event logo by Maine potter Malley Weber, and a cozy jacket from Patagonia!

The top three finishers in each 5k age group will receive gift cards to Lamey Wellehan for $50, $40, or $30!

And, it will be fun, with folks in polar bear costumes, hot drinks from Coffee by Design, and goodies from Whole Foods too!
